Removing floorboards

I am removing the interior prior to annual. Is there a secret to removing the two front floorboards? The heel brake pedals seem to interfere with removal. I had to arch (bend) the two rear panels to get them out. Is that normal? Any advice would be appreciated. Lynn

YES, SIR!!! That is normal----I modified some of those floorboards by cutting the opening to a friendlier size, then screwing an aluminum plate to the floorboard to fill in the gap.

I found the problem after reading an article in the B-C Club magazine regarding misplaced heel brake pedals. I found that my left front and right rear heel brake pedals were reversed. I had my mechanic correct this during my annual last month and now the front floor boards go in very easy. If the tab on the heel brake pedal faces outboard it is in the wrong place. The pedals are marked "left" and "right". 'Still have to bend the rear panel to get it in but have not broken in yet.

I guess I can see where you might want to remove interrior for easier inspection, but its not really designed for constant removal. Its not required in the service manual either. There is a serice letter coming that will slightly complicate the removal even further. (although not a ton). Again, I can see why you might want to, but thinking how we have been installing the interior for the last 20 years...what a PITA.
