Scott 3200-00 tailwheel

I have a 7KCAB Citabria and am overhauling the Scott 3200-00 tailwheel.
My question is: Part # 3234 (Thrust plate assembly) has 3 pins which accept Part # 2323 (compression springs) I have asked Scott why the exploded diagram on their 3200 info sheet calls out 5 springs in the number required.

Their reply is that 5 springs are required, -but if so, I am unable to see where the other two springs fit.

Thanks if you can help with this query.

To close up this particular post;
all became clear when I received the set of spares ordered for the overhaul. Unknown to me, the existing tailwheel was a hybrid unit, cobbled together from at least two other models of tailwheel. Positioning of the springs on the replacement is self-evident and my question probably gave some of you a smile.

I now have a complete replacement from ACA which has been fitted. One thing I've noticed is that the vertical axis of the new bracket assy.(-part # 3216-00) is inclined at quite a different angle to the original, in that it leans back (at the top) -whereas the original leaned forwards.

Ed,
Take a look at the most recent copy of Vintage Aircraft Association magazine, a subdivision of EAA. They had two good articles on tailwheels, one specifically on angles and verticle lines, using the Scott 3200 for examples. Most will be explained there.

Mark,

That's helpful feedback: I have been in touch with EAA for a copy. Thanks for taking the trouble.
