Scout Landing Gear

I've seen several Citabrias that have been modified with Scout style landing gear, and wonder if there's anyone out there that knows about this conversion? I can't find an STC, but that doesn't mean one doesn't exsist. Any help would be appreciated.

Its a field approval that got passed around a lot.

Its a good example of why the field approval process was taken away from the FSDOs. Basically, the bigger leg changes the loading on the fuselage, due to both geometrical and dynamic reasons.(as you would have to drop test it to see load factors).

Is it unsafe? Its prolly just fine. The point is, no one ever took care of the details (i.e. the attachements/fuelage) and assumed that the bigger leg was good enough. Its likely to be an okay mod, but that wont stand up in court.

I have a Citabria tied down at Lake Hood strip. Have Scout gear and had it installed in Fairbanks. Northland Aviation. John has a field approval for installing gear legs. You can contact me for more info. rctent@alaska.net
