Skylight

Has anyone added a skylight to their 7ECA aircraft. If so how difficult was it and can you obtain a kit? :?:

A quick Googling shows lots of Citabrias with skylights. I don't know if they were standard on some planes or options, but it's listed in the parts manual as "greenhouse," so maybe you can add it to your 7ECA without a lot of red tape. It will take some fabric work, and you'll have to change some stringers, retainers, seals, formers, etc.

I think your best bet is to call ACA and see if they have a package deal on the parts. 262-534-6315. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this: Since this is a factory option, you don't need a STC to retrofit your 7ECA if you buy the parts from the factory.

I'd be interested in installing one of these, too, sometime after I get my wings finished... So let me know what you find out.

ACA has a kit to add the greenhouse. Best if done while the fabric is being done. You will need to change a few stringers, and add the "box" member that the glass mounts too. If your frame does not have the metal tabs to hold the green house "box" in place they will have to be welded into place too. As you can see a simple addition can take some time.
Call ACA and I am sure they can answer all your questions. They even have a blue print to help you get things lined up.

Good luck.

I got the greenhouse kit from ACA. My fuselage has the tabs, so I won't have to do any welding, and my mechanic says he'll sign it off when I'm done.

My intention is to make this a minimally invasive surgical procedure. I'm not in the mood to re-cover my fuselage this year. And I don't feel like taking the wings off again.

Is this overly optimistic? Do you have any tips for getting the job done?

Other than lots of swearing, I think you can get it done. Worst part getting the exsisting stringers to mate with the greenhouse box. I think the non-greenhouse stringers have the same routing as the greenhouse stringers. I could be very wrong. :?

One key item is leaving enough headliner and fabric to get the overlap / glue area that you need.

A million other comments escape me at the moment. I am glad Mandy or Chad could help you out though.

Yes, Mandy and Chad in the parts dept. were very helpful in putting together a greenhouse kit for me. The box arrived with many more parts than I had considered. Installation in my '74 ECA was going smoothly until I broke my windshield. Oh well. It was old, and this is a good time to replace it, anyway.

Question: How much silicone goo should I use to install my greenhouse window, and to what edges should I apply it?

Another question: Where does the fabric terminate at the rear of the green house frame? I would love to see a photo of a completed installation or a sketch of fabric layers. Still scratching my head on this one.

Thanks for any help!
