Spades?

I have never flown an airplane with spades. I am thinking about getting some for my 7ECA. I don't do any appreciable acro, but wouldn't mind having lighter ailerons.

Any advantages? Disadvantages (other than walking into them)? Comments??

Thanks in advance.

Bill

I have flown a 7ECA with and without (mine is with) and the difference is analogous to driving a car with power steering and the same car with the power steering inop. Spades are well worth the money.

I haven't had the head whacking problem. I do; however, regularly run into the aileron. I have the Pash spades that are mounted on the inboard end of the aileron, that may make a difference.

Yo -
To avoid head-whacking, purchase 2, red REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT ribbons and hang them on the spade shaft with plastic shower-curtain rings. Easy on. Easy off. Line service guys and your forehead both will be grateful. And be glad you don't fly a Husky. You could bleed just from lookinmg at the Husky's wing trailing edge hinges.

Thanks to all who replied to my question about spades. I had some installed and they are a huge improvement! I had them added to the new wings that I had ACA install.

The crew at ACA was outstanding. I arrived about 1030 AM last Thursday and was on my way by 330 PM Friday! And that included a laundry list of small repairs that I had done! It is great to watch pros who take pride in their work!

I am on my 7th day of flying my 7ECA out to the ACA factory and back from PA. I've been weathered in Indiana for the past 3 nights (after spending 2 nights here on the way out). I highly recommend C65 (Plymouth, Indiana) as a place to stop!

ACA factory spades go on the outboard end, Olin Pash spades go on the inboard end. Not interchangeable as far as I know.
