Tail Flying Wires

High quality new manufacture comes from Scotland. The US rep is Steen Aero Lab in Palm Bay, FL: http://www.steenaero.com. It takes about 12 weeks to get the order so plan ahead.

I've heard that you can still find some McWhyte surplus from an outfit in California, but I've never tried this source.

I have had good luck ordering NOS. McWhyte wires from A-Wheels 800-517-9278. http://www.flyingwires.com. I've sent a lot of antiquers their way so, I don't know what's left. Give them a tolerance of +- 3/4 inch.

I have now had to replace two on my bird. Each time I was able to get them through Kevin at Webber Aero in Alexandria MN.

Remember, tighten flying wires to '.......a low bass tone.' Most flying wires break because of overtightening or alignment problems. The low base tone statement came from Mcwhyte years ago after breaking two wires on my Cruisair.

great advise. I presumed that it was due to overtightening. My other change was rigging new "birds" in the fly wires. Looking at the breaks in the two that I broke it appeard to be due to harmonics. I have experienced this when float plane rigging wires are to tight or not square.
