I believe our illustrious president Robert is going to put a notice in the newsletter, but I thought I'd bounce this idea off the forum folks specifically.
I work on Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, AL. Specifically at Marshall Space Flight Center (NASA). FYI, Atlanta Sectional/ north Alabama.
We have a flying club out here on base called the Redstone Arsenal Flying Activity. Good people and cheap fuel.
I'm in negotiations with Jack Ferguson (general manager of the FBO) to see if a fly-in to the Arsenal is feasable for the weekend before Sun N Fun- sort of a place to stop while enroute to the EAA bash. 8)
The recreation facilities include things like a softball diamond, rustic lodge for indoor events, skeet range, canoe and pontoon boat rental, boat ramp, excellent outdoor picnic facilities (grills and tables at the FBO as well), full FBO facilities, showers (one each), grass tie-down space (bring your own tie-downs), off-base transport (TB provided by me in the form of a van), and nearby hotels (Holiday Inn and The Marriott- both quite nice).
Local attractions include the US Space and Rocket Center museum w/ IMAX movies, Huntsville Museum of Art, and various Golf facilities i.e. The Robert Trent Golf Trail and a nice course on base. There is more, but my brain isn't what it used to be...
If you are interested, please let me know. If there's not enough, I'll shelf it for now.
