Unequal fuel qty in tanks.

I never have the same qty in each tank in my 7kcab. 2 tanks cross feed, 1 main shut off valve. 1 qty gauge on the inside rt. wing. Venting appears to be normal. I will have 5 gals in the right tank and 13 left in the left. ??

Your thoughts ?

Hi,

I had this as well. Turned out to be a split seal around the cap.

Replaced both of those and it went away.

Why would this cause a lack of balance between the tanks even while parked. It is not a sealed system.

With the dihedral of the wings it doesn't take much of a ground slope to cause unequal dipstick reading. To check - turn it 180 deg, leaving the main wheels in the same spot.

When you are flying the venturi effect will suck the fuel right out. At least that's what happend to me. You don't see it as it's a really fine mist. I was lucky that I noticed on a cold day and there was still some on the top of the wing wen I returned.

Not sure about the parked problem, however because there is no way to stop it xfeeding, if on uneven ground it will feed to the low wing.

Forgive me Father for I have sinned !

I put some a couple of gallons of gas in my Citabria at my home strip and flew 20 miles to gas up at a local aerodrome.

Went to fill and only found 1 gas cap - Doh !

Filled both tanks, sealed the uncovered one with duct tape - very securely and set off.

Half way home I noticed that the tanks were no longer even.

Then I saw this trail of gas coming out of my left tank - Doh - Doh !

Do not try to seal a tank with duct tape - it don't work.

At $8.29 per US gallon ( current price in the UK ) that was an expensive day out lost 8 gallons

had the same problem....replaced the check valve as it was faulty.... also gash flying out of balance causes the same uneven fuel.

ok help me with this. I added 7 gallons to the right tank only (7GCBC) took off and after just a short time the plane balanced out.
Landed for a while and dont remember if I was parked down hill though. Took off after 15 or 20 minutes and noticed the plane pulling terribley to the left. It appeared from the guages that I now had more fuel in the LEFT side than the right but not noticably that much more. Half hour flight home and it didnt get any better, in fact I dont remember leaning on the ailerons that hard before. Anyway dipped the tanks when I got back and there was an inch more in the left tank than right. Is this a cap seal issue or something else? Or does it take forever for the fuel to balance?

Boy, the bliss of ignorance. My left tank on my '76 7GCBC regularly takes about a gallon or two more than my right when I re-fuel and I never gave it a second thought. Just thought it was normal. Now you've all got me wondering :?:

I may be the only one to ever do this, but I always find myself holding a little right rudder after I have leveled off. I can't seem to let go after having held right rudder through the climb. I am finding out that if I can just get my right foot oof the rudder after I level off, the fuel imbalance problem goes away.

Well now I need to get it back up in the air. I was asked if I possibly had one notch of flaps in and didnt notice. So now I'm not sure. I know the 206 I fly pulls left with flaps on at higher speeds. (206 allows 10 degrees max at higher speeds)
