Vernatherm

Hi Guys,

It's annual time again and our AI was going to check the operation of our vernatherm and opened the housing and it was empty, no vernatherm.
We have a 1974 7ECA with a O235-C1 engine which came from the factory with out an oil cooler. We have installed an airdwolf oil filter kit which included the vernatherm housing, but obviously we did not get a vernatherm with the kit.
We also installed at a later time an oil cooler using ACA parts.
Now the sticky part. Our AI looked in our engine manual which came from Bellanca with the AC does not show a vernatherm since it had no oil cooler originally so he tells us we need FAA approval via a 337 to put a vernatherm into our housing.
I called ACA and was told I would have to convert my C1 engine to a K2C in order for the vernatherm to be legal. "What does that entail?, I asked and was told add an oil cooler(which we have).
I called Lycoming and spoke with tech and Dennis told me that his 235-C1 parts catalogue shows a vernatherm as part of the oil system so we should be ok to put one into the housing.
I told our AI this and he said he would look into it and get back to me.
This is a long way around to ask if anyone has added an Airwolf filter kit and an oil cooler and if you have a vernatherm.
If Jerry Jr is listening, is it legal for us to stick a vernatherm into the Airwolf housing?

Thanks,

Ron

I have a 76 ECA and have added the airwolf filter kit and an ACA oil cooler kit. Not sure I have the vernatherm or not. I also added a Reiff oil cooler heating strip to prevent cooler damage at cold starts
