weight & balance

Let me begin by saying, "I am not an aircraft expert". I had a new radio installed in my 14-19-3 I purchased in November of 06. The radio guy asked for my weight & balance. I could not find one nor did I know what it should look like. I need some help, possibly a faxed copy or some direction. Thanks, Micheal.

If you don't have one you will need to find someone that has scales and knows how to use them to create one for you.

Ask any IA that has T-Data and he can print you one in a flash. If you have trouble contact me and I will make you one up. Lynn N9818B :p

I think the scales is the right answer. Perhaps tdata is applied after the scales, but no one can predict how heavy your paint and fabric and seat cushions and soundproofing is without actually plopping the plane on scales.

If you poke around on the FAA website, you can find where to purchase a CD of your plane's original documents when it came from the factory and Form 337 modifications that have been submitted on it. This gives you the help you need to locate the "datam", where the fuel, oil, radios, etc. are aft of this piont so you can calculate your wt & balance in the future and not have to reweigh it. Every aircraft should be weighed every decade or so. just to see if all of the mechanic's figures were coming out right. Ken .......yarddog A&P/IA

Not sure what a 14-19-3 is? but look up the TCAS for it at:

http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgMakeModel.nsf/MainFrame?OpenFrameSet

It will give you all the datum distance and other things you will need to work up a new wt / bal.

I am sure if you go back into the logs and paperwork 337's you will find the wt/bal sheets.

If you have the original paint, fabric and interior as it came from the factory, then possibly the original weight and balance can be used to calculate the new weight and balance. However if you have changed any of the above (which I might guess has happened to virtually all the planes, then you must actually weigh your plane to get the weight and balance. I suppose even the water content of the wood will change the weight and balance (but not by much) Weighing the plane is a pretty simple matter. You will have to figure out where the Datum points are and using someone elses weight and balance could help there, but other than that, it can be accomplished in under an hour if you have the right equipment. Be sure to fill your fuel tanks just before you weigh the plane (and subtract the fuel weight to get the empty weight. good luck

Lynn,
You are awesome. Thanks for the help and thanks to the other members for your assistance. It is great to be part of a community of like minded crazy people. I mean Bellanca enthusiast.
