What is it?

:? There's a chromed disc mounted just aft of the pilot's seat in front of the left rear window. It has a removable disc twist-locked onto it. It appears to either be a removable mirror (missing) or maybe a place where the Bellanca Logo or something was mounted. Any ideas out there :?:

It doesn't appear in any interior shots I've seen. It does have a permanent blind nut plate it screws to that appears to be original to the airframe. :) :D

hey dave!

just a SWAG (scientific wild-ass guess) but could it be the attach point for the rear seat hand holds? what you're describing jibes with what i've got on both sides of the rear cabin in my 14-19. don't have any experience with cruiseaires, so i't just a guess.

well...

i guess i should have said "scientific wild-a** guess".

didn't mean to offend anyone.

I don't think so. The mount has two 8-32 nuts tack-welded onto a thin piece of steel. The chrome disc screws onto that with two countersunk screws. Then ANOTHER disc twist-locks onto that. If someone grabbed ahold of a handle on the inside mounted to that setup, it might just break off

Maybe I'll post a picture on Photobucket...

My OTS instrument light is up high. This location would make it shine right onto the back of my seat.
I wonder if planes this early had a removable mirror for signaling in case of an unintentional landing... No ELTs back then of course!

It's definitely made to be removable. I guess I can pretty much just mount a mirror there and call it good...

Dave,
Cruisair Parts book plate 126 shows a round ash tray mounted there. The guy I bought my Cruisair from told me he smoked every time he flew until one day he dropped a lit cigarette. It fell through a gap in the floor boards and scared the crap out of him. He kept imagining that he smelled smoke until he managed to land. He never lit another while flying.

So it's an ashtray... how about that! Now it's a mirror. I haven't smoked for some time now, so I guess my "modification" will be OK.
:D

HOW?

Did you get a PMA, STC, etc. to make it legal?

How about the weight and balance? :p

They sure did! However, I could use a fullsize of the right profile view and one panel view. The others are OK, but very fuzzy when enlarged a little.
