Cruisair Metal Prop STC (The Other One)

I know of at least one 165 powered Cruisair that has been using a viscous damper for the last 20 years or longer.I asked the owner what it did for the plane, and he said it just made a smooth running engine even smoother.I asked if there was any modification to make it fit,and he said no. He said just make sure your mag gears mesh properly. My interest in the viscous damper is the chance that it might reduce or eliminate the broken bolt problems in Aeromatics. The price you pay for this smoothness is about 10 pounds more weight and limited availability. Also there may be no paper work to allow the change. Grant.

http://rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgSAIB.nsf/(LookupSAIBs)/NE-08-18?OpenDocument This SAIB talks about incorrect dampening on engines causing prop failure-mostly I think they are talking about lack of damping. I hope the viscous damper you are adding takes away dangerous prop vibration, but perhaps you are becoming the test pilot.
