Interesting project. Panel looks completely uncut and original!

I dunno, Dave - that looked mighty scary to me: not the dirt and such but the fact that it seems to have been kept in a covered tie-down (what some people call an Open T) rather than an enclosed hangar. Certainly the walls were anything but sealed, and the floor is dirt. Imagine all the mouse nests <shudder>.

The seller also seemed a bit delusional. Ferriable?! Did you see the cover on the elevator? Heaven knows what's inside those wings. Although mouse pee might be less harmful to wood than it is to aluminium, little mouse teeth and claws are not.

As I've certainly demonstrated on numerous occasions, I'm far from wise in the ways of building and mechanical work, but I figure a project is something you can complete.

According to our records, it's a 1947 14-13-2 and has the 165 Franklin. Member has not been active in a number of years.

Hope that helps,

I was thinking it would be great as a donor airframe at the very least.
I figure the wing spars are shot, looks like rust in the motor mount, and the wheels and axles may be toast. The rest of it is certainly salvageable. I think if I had the change, I'd wait 'til the auction was over (I doubt he sells it) and make an offer.
Just thinking coldly about it, the fuselage frame ought to be OK provided the mousies haven't corroded it, the ailerons, flaps, empennage, cowls, panel, pedals, and so on would be good too.
Wonder what kind of damage history it has...

This is a pipe-dream of course. Heck- I can't finish the one I have for 2 more years most likely

Wouldn't it be great to have the coinage to save TWO Cruisairs?

S/N 1346, mfg 1946 as a true 14-13 (not a -2). It still has the big hollow auxiliary stabilizer fins.
As far as I can see it's certainly NOT ferriable. Someone would have to be um, unstable to do so IMO.

Dame shame some fool would let an airplane end up like that! I have seen this more and more , these people don't deserve to own a plane. I was the 1st bid at 5001 bucks. Hoped I would win so I could personaly spank the owner who let this happen   Lynn N9818B

I don't think you can spank the owner easily-it's listed as an estate auction which means the guy is presumably very very dead.

That airplane belongs on a trailer headed for a complete rebuild. Everything including the struts need rebuilding. Its hard to believe it would go for more than about $3500.

By the serial number , It's a 14-13. Not a -2 unless mod has been completed. Mine is ser. number 1377 and it was a 14-13 and was upgraded into a -2. This one is older so not a -2 look at the TC.
Closest sister ship from mine seen so far.
Some cylinders look recent. If wood is good, it would be a nice candidat for complete rebuilt to original spec.
Aah! if I had money and time...nooooo, I wouldn't buy this, I just saw a nice beach resort vacation on TV as I am writing these lines...

sure it's ferryable - hey, a little duct tape, some gorilla glue, and up to date last will and testament...
Of course you could also strap that Allison that is on ebay in to it.
Some times I just can't help but wonder what planet did these people come from. $5000 is about 4000 too much, and that would still be a gamble. I bet the fuse. tubes are gone, especially the tail, the worms are probably holding hands to keep the wing tips off the ground. Best bet would be a Viking funeral, and salvage the data plate. G-d I hope I never do that to a plane. Better to fly it into a mountain side or go 400 miles west of the Oregon coast and turn around...!

I plan to contact the winner to see if he/ she would be interested in the BCC. Hopefully it's someone that plans on a restoration :D

What I REALLY want to find out is the overall condition and if it is indeed restorable. Having a Tee Hangar open on just one side may have helped preserve it somewhat.
If it's not restorable and they part it out, I want the instrument panel, control surfaces, horizontal stab, FWF, and cowling. I feel it would be worth buying this one if only for spares to keep 392 in the air (future). Saying "want", I feel those that actually NEED these pieces to get their bird in the air should come first. They would be spares for me.

"Course I may not be able to afford Go Juice by the time I get 392 airborne... :x

Actually, Larry, your scenario has much to recommend it over slow, withering, shoved full of tubes and breathing apparatus, farewells.

Get the word from the Doc...buy a pack of unfiltered Camels, grab a couple of burgers from Carl Jr.'s and....I figured that would be a suitable way to say goodbye to this tiny orb that seems so utterly important to us at times, but I'd hate to wreck an innocent airplane. Then again, most of our triple tails are worth about half or two thirds of the cost of a coffin and funeral, and burial or cremation are both seeming a bit passe'.

Oh, sorry, the topic...let's see. The Aeromatic on it - I found myself pondering its condition last evening for no reason in particular.

Now ..that plane was a smoking' deal...at $11K.........add $25K worth of parts and 450hrs of labour and she will be worth $26K.....planebones

I would love to know----did he fly it out or truck it out? Bones is right, after it is all done ( a BIG if) our man got himself a 26K piece of work. Lynn N9818B

I guess I am just too cynical, but I noticed that the winning buyer had a zero ebay rating. Wonder if this will end up like so many ebay aircraft sales and fall through.

I DO hope that it does work, and we see the plane fly again, despite my previous rant. Also, whoever wrote in the suggestions on preparing the plane for travel did a good thing, and earned them self points in Bellanca heaven!

Selling price was $10,300.00. Incredible. That's about how much I have wrapped up in 392 AFTER recovering most of the airframe

Which reminds me- the aileron idea didn;t work out so good. Back to the drawing board... :?
