Cruisair on ebaY

Without inspecing the thing you can't really tell if it is ferrible or not. Way back when, I helped a couple of guys go from New Orleans down to Corpus Christi to pick up a surplus T6. All fabric was rotten but it would hold duct tape just fine. It flew back to New Orleans in style.

By the way, at the Lockheed wind tunnel at the Rye Canyon facility, duct tape was referred to as 500 mile an hour tape. It would start to peel back at around 500 mph.

I love duct tape I go through about 2 or 3 rolls a week in my buisness. The stuff you by at Home Depot and such is not to good a quility. I had the Fabric peel back on the bottom( at the boot cowl ) on my Viking in Houston . I cleaned the surface with Mineral spirits then MEK and then ran a few strips of Duct tape. On the way home I forgot about it and in the decent indicating 180 kts it let loose. Scared the S### out of me. I have seen it hold on metal better than fabric. Fabric moves under the tape.

If you have been around Bellancas a while. You will find out they can not take the outdoors well. There are a lot of them out there with bad wings for that very reason. I will put money on it that the lower longerons will need replacing along with the tail post rusted up. We all know what water does to wood if not dryed quickly. There is a certain moisture content you want to maintain on the old birds. I have a set of wings that belong to my 46 cruiseair that will show what happens when left outside. My 47 was lucky, It has had some very good owners. I have this thing about Bellancas I have had 2 Viking and 1 cruiseair flying. I told my wife I would probably sell the cruiseair after I got another Viking. I got the Viking last Jan. and still have not been able to bring myself to sell the Cruiseair. I guess as long as she does not complain I will keep them both.
